SME Bank Offers Temporary Relief to Clients Affected by the Novel Coronavirus Outbreak

KUALA LUMPUR : 6 February 2020

In responding to the novel coronavirus outbreak, SME Bank customers who are affected can come forward to the Bank to be reviewed and considered for a temporary relief on their financial commitments with the Bank.

Group President/Chief Executive Officer of SME Bank, Aria Putera Ismail said, “As the leading development financial institution in serving the SME sector, this is part of the Bank’s beyond financing initiative to alleviate the financial burden and to ensure the continuation of business operations by our affected clients during this hard time.”

Aria added, “We are aware that a sizeable number of the local SMEs especially in the tourism, manufacturing and services industries depend heavily on the sales and supplies from China and the lockdown initiated by the Chinese government has amongst others caused a significant drop in tourists’ arrivals. This has greatly impacted our local entrepreneurs operations either directly or indirectly. With this temporary relief initiative, our affected clients will be able to manage their finances effectively to ensure sustainability.”

SME Bank, an agency under the supervision of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) remains committed in supporting the SMEs during this difficult time. Despite the challenging economic environment, our mandate of nurturing and developing the SMEs continue to be our focus and various support efforts are undertaken in ensuring the goal of making Malaysia an entrepreneurial nation as envisioned in DKN 2030 is achieved.

Affected SMEs who are clients of the Bank can call the Bank’s Customer Contact Centre at 03 – 2603 7700 or visit nearest branch to get more information on the assistance available.
