SME Bank Donates RM74,100 to Flood-affected Schools in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: 1 August 2024 – SME Bank is stepping up to support schools hit by the recent flash floods in Penampang, Sabah. This initiative is part of SME Bank’s ongoing efforts to support the community in times of need, ensuring that students affected by the floods can continue their education without interruption.

Datuk Dr. Mohammad Hardee Ibrahim, Relief Group President/Chief Executive Officer, said, “In line with SME Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, the bank has donated RM 74,100 to four schools in the affected areas to aid students who lost essential school supplies. This donation aims to alleviate the burden on families and ensure that the students can continue their education without further disruption. The schools receiving the contributions are SK ST Anthony, SK ST Theresa Inobong, SMK Datuk Peter Mojuntin, and SK Babagon.”

“We believe in supporting the communities where we operate, especially in times of need. This support will help a total of 247 students replace their school uniforms, shoes, and other necessary items. This contribution is a testament to SME Bank’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and community support, reflecting our strong presence in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau,” he added.

The contribution handover ceremony, held under Program Ehsan by KUSKOP, took place on August 1, 2024, at Dewan Huguan Siou Tuavon, Penampang. The ceremony was graced by YB Datuk Ewon Benedick, Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (MECD) and Dato' Muslim Hussain, Chairman of SME Bank, alongside other MECD agencies and community leaders.
