KUALA LUMPUR: 3 October 2023 – SME Bank is delighted to announce the appointment of Dato’ Muslim Hussain as the Non-Executive Chairman of Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad (SME Bank) effective 1st October 2023. Dato’ Muslim brings with him a distinguished career in the banking sector, coupled with a strong background in risk management, credit policy and portfolio management.

Dato’ Muslim has been with SME Bank since 1 September 2018, when he was appointed as an Independent Non-Executive Director. He had previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Risk Management Committee and also served as member of the Board Financing and Investment Committee, Board Audit Committee as well as Board Information Technology Committee of SME Bank.

Dato’ Muslim's banking career spans over 35 years, during which he held positions in Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) and Agrobank. He served as the Chief Risk Officer of Agrobank from 2011 to 2016, demonstrating his expertise in risk management. At Maybank, he held various senior positions, including roles in risk management, credit policy, portfolio management, and credit evaluation.

A graduate from the University of Malaya in 1982 and he also attended the Royal Malaysian Police College in 1983.
